The Church Insurance Group has agreed to pay $75,000 to settle a civil lawsuit brought against the Trinity Episcopal Cathedral and Bishop Andrew Waldo of Upper South Carolina by the wife of the former dean of the Cathedral.

In a letter to members of the congregation dated 11 Dec 2012, senior warden Mark James said the cathedral’s insurance carrier had settled the lawsuit against the advice of the cathedral chapter and Bishop Waldo, who have maintained Ellen Linder’s lawsuit had no merit.

On 29 Sept 2011, Ellen Linder, wife of Dean Philip C. Linder, filed suit alleging she and her husband had been defamed and abused by Bishop Waldo and the cathedral following his 14 July 2010 suspension.

That should help the Church finance all those lawsuits- NOT!! Geeesh. I wonder if those in charge of the Church Insurance Group will be deposed as they did not continue with the lawsuit. Isn’t that TEC’s new motto: Sue until it hurts!
